Yep, because we all know independent retailers have the Baby it’s Covid outside reindeer ugly Christmas shirt money and resources to do this don’t we! The gap between the super businesses and independent ones will just get bigger. Yet another nail in their coffin, well done. The only good thing is it might give some people a job who really need one especially this time of year. Be nice if they could reward them by giving them boxing day off! So you can’t go have a meal or see your relatives but you can send your kids to school, shop in supermarkets with hundreds of people and shop for Christmas until midnight, putting hundreds including staff at risk but then have a 5-day break from it all over the holidays ?? … come on have a day off now. How many people will pass through these shops? Thousands? Millions? But comparatively, it’s more dangerous to sit and play monopoly with Nan and Grandad and a handful of other family members?

Yeah, this isn’t just about the Baby it’s Covid outside reindeer ugly Christmas shirt money at all. The poor staff that works in retail. They’ve been working through the pandemic and now they won’t get time off over Christmas with their families because they will be working. And most of them are on minimum wage. Let’s hope the shops expecting their staff to work overnight are paying triple time.
As much as I agree it will really help with crowds to make shopping quieter – I do feel sorry for the shop assistants. Couldn’t they stay open until midnight? I would think that’s still late enough, to be honest, this makes sense it stops everyone trying to rush to the shops at once and it means some much-needed cash on the tills for some shops. I just hope the staff are asked and not expected to work a night shift and are well paid for doing so.
